That is not correct Sir.
Scouts CAN use Alcohol Stoves, providing that they're factory-made; such as the Trangia.
It's DIY Cat Food Can Stoves etc, that can't be used.

my trangia is super reliable and 20 years old now, whats not to like about them, mine works in extreme winds and never goes out,i made my own stand and windshield, the ones that come with the trangia are not that great, the burner itself is awesome, the army takes the trangia out hiking for a good reason, minimal setup, fuel is easy to find, and you know when your fuel is going to run out.cheers

In reply to <a href="https://www.hikeforpurpose.com/trangia-stove-review/#comment-1216">Ian</a>.

Interesting.

Just FYI, the DoE Award scheme expressly recommends the usage of Trangia 25 and 27 stoves because they are relatively safe (of course, no stove is safe for unsupervised young children, but the Trangia are much safer than most other stoves).

Use of the gel burner with Vango bio-gel or generic fondue fuel will essentially eliminate the spillage concern.

You are correct, though, that the almost invisible flames requires special care: especially when refilling a burner. ALWAYS use the simmer ring as a snuffer: this ensures the burner is 100% extinguished).

Hey Ian,

Thanks for reading and the compliment!

That is a concern about them indeed, especially with younger kids alcohol stoves are maybe not the best fit.

Cheers,
